Game Won't Launch at All

If the launcher opens but the game never starts, check whether your system meets the minimum requirements and update your GPU drivers. Also verify the game files through the Bethesda.net launcher or Steam — corrupted install is one of the most common culprits here.

Login Errors and Account Issues

Error codes during login usually come down to a few things:

• Cached credentials gone stale — log out completely and back in
• Two-factor authentication delay — wait 60 seconds before retrying the code
• Bethesda.net servers under load — check the official status page and try again in 10–15 minutes
• Wrong region selected in the launcher settings

High Ping and Laggy Gameplay

Fallout 76 is notoriously sensitive to network conditions. First, switch from Wi-Fi to a wired connection — this alone can drop your ping by 30–50 ms. If you're still seeing rubber-banding, go to your router settings and enable QoS, prioritizing gaming traffic. Changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 sometimes helps too.

Server Connection Drops Mid-Session

Sudden disconnects mid-game usually point to packet loss rather than full outage. Run a traceroute to Bethesda's servers and look for a hop with consistent loss. If the problem is on your ISP's side, contact their support with the traceroute log as evidence.

Freezing and Interface Hang

The UI freezing on the map or inventory screen is a known issue. Lower the in-game resolution and disable V-Sync — this reduces GPU load significantly. If the freeze happens on fast travel, lower texture quality one step down.

Slow Download or Patch Install

If an update crawls at 1–2 MB/s while your connection is fine, pause the download, close the launcher entirely, reopen it, and resume. Alternatively, set a download speed cap in launcher settings to 0 (unlimited) — sometimes the default cap is set too low after reinstallation.
