If the game refuses to start, first verify the integrity of files through Steam: right-click on DayZ → Properties → Local Files → Verify integrity. Missing or corrupted files are the most common culprit. Also check that your GPU drivers are up to date — outdated drivers cause silent crashes on launch.
Server location matters a lot here. Always filter servers by distance and pick ones geographically close to you. If ping is still high, close background apps eating bandwidth — browsers, torrent clients, cloud sync. Wired connection beats Wi-Fi every time for a survival game.
Random crashes usually point to RAM issues or overheating. Run the game with lower graphics settings first to rule out GPU overload. Check your Windows Event Viewer for crash logs — look under Windows Logs → Application for DayZ-related errors. If crashes happen after exactly the same playtime, heat is the likely cause.
This one's server-side more often than not, but if it keeps happening: make sure you're always disconnecting through the in-game menu, not Alt+F4. Forcefully closing the app can desync your save state from the server.
This usually happens after a mod update. Clear the DayZ cache folder located at Documents\DayZ — delete the contents, not the folder itself. If the problem persists, try removing all mods and joining a vanilla server to isolate the issue.
