Internet Connection Drops Randomly

Intermittent disconnections on DSL or fiber lines are usually tied to either the router or the physical connection. Start by checking the cable between the wall socket and your router — a loose or damaged DSL/fiber patch cable causes exactly this kind of unstable behavior. Restart the router by unplugging it for 30 seconds, not just using the reset button. If the problem repeats on a schedule (often late evening), it may be line congestion rather than a hardware fault — log the times and contact Thüringer Netkom support with specifics.

Speeds Far Below Contracted 1 Gbit/s

Don't test speed over Wi-Fi and expect gigabit results — most consumer routers cap out well below that. Use a LAN cable directly from the router to your PC for an accurate test. If wired speeds still fall short, check whether your router supports the full contracted rate; older models often bottle-neck at 100 Mbit/s. Also confirm no background applications are saturating the uplink.

IPTV Streams Buffering or Not Loading
  • Check that your router prioritizes IPTV traffic; many setups require a dedicated VLAN or at minimum QoS settings enabled for the set-top box port.
  • A shared Wi-Fi connection to the TV box almost always causes stuttering — switch to a wired connection.
  • If the image freezes but audio continues, the multicast stream is likely dropping packets; a router reboot often clears this temporarily.
  • Contact support if the issue persists after switching to a wired setup, as it may indicate a signal problem on the line itself.
Login Fails on the Customer Portal

Session cookies occasionally cause authentication loops. Clear browser cache and cookies completely, then try logging in from a private browsing window. If the portal still rejects your credentials, use the password reset option — but make sure the email arrives (check spam). On mobile, the same logic applies to the app: clear its cache from system settings before reinstalling.

Mobile Data Not Working

When Thüringer Netkom mobile service shows signal bars but data won't load, the APN settings are usually wrong or got reset after a SIM swap. Go into mobile network settings and verify the APN matches what's listed in your contract documents. Toggle airplane mode on and off after saving any changes to force the device to re-register on the network.

High Ping During Online Gaming
  • Switch from Wi-Fi to a wired Ethernet connection first — this alone can cut ping by 20–40 ms.
  • Close background apps that use network connections, especially update services and cloud sync.
  • If ping spikes happen only at certain hours, the issue is likely upstream congestion; document it and report to support with timestamps.
Outgoing Emails or Messages Failing

If messages stop sending through an email client configured with your provider's SMTP server, check whether the outgoing port setting is correct — port 587 with STARTTLS is the standard. Authentication errors usually mean a recently changed password wasn't updated in the mail client settings. For messaging apps, verify that mobile data or the home connection is fully active, not just connected with limited access.
