If the game just crashes on startup or freezes on the splash screen, start with the basics: verify the integrity of game files through Steam or Epic Games Launcher. Corrupted installation is the most common culprit. Also check that your GPU drivers are up to date — outdated drivers cause silent crashes more often than people expect.
RDR2 is notoriously CPU-hungry. If you're getting frame drops, go to Graphics Settings and reduce the "Advanced Settings" options like Geometry Level of Detail and Shadow Quality first — they hit performance hardest. Also make sure you're not running the game from an HDD; an SSD makes a real difference here.
When the online mode drops you with error 0x20010006 or similar, the issue is usually on the network side:
Consistent high latency in Red Dead Online often comes from Wi-Fi interference or wrong session region. In the in-game network settings, try manually selecting a closer server region. Switching to Ethernet typically cuts ping by 30–50ms on its own.
The launcher freezes or won't open at all. Kill all Rockstar processes in Task Manager, then delete the "Launcher" folder cache located at %localappdata%\Rockstar Games\Launcher. A clean relaunch usually fixes it.
If your progress isn't saving to the Rockstar Social Club cloud, check that cloud saves are enabled under Profile settings in the launcher. Also make sure your local save folder at Documents\Rockstar Games\RDR2\Profiles is not set to read-only.
