Service info and troubleshooting

PagoPA Website Won't Load

If the pagoPA portal doesn't open, start with the basics: clear your browser cache, try a different browser, or switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data. Sometimes a stale DNS cache is the culprit — flushing it with ipconfig /flushdns on Windows or sudo dscacheutil -flushcache on macOS often fixes the problem instantly. If the issue persists across devices and networks, the service itself may be experiencing downtime — wait 15–20 minutes and try again.

Payment Not Going Through

This is one of the most common issues. A few things to check:

  • Make sure the notice code (codice avviso) is entered correctly — even one wrong digit causes a rejection
  • Verify your card or account has sufficient funds and that online payments are enabled by your bank
  • Some Italian banks block the first transaction to a new payee — call your bank to authorize it
  • Try a different payment method: if a credit card fails, test with a debit card or bank transfer
Login Errors in the Personal Area

Authentication failures usually come from SPID or CIE identity providers rather than pagoPA itself. If your SPID login is stuck or looping, check that your identity provider service is up. Also confirm you're using the correct credentials — SPID has three security levels, and some operations require level 2. Clearing cookies before logging in often resolves redirect loops.

App Freezing or Crashing

The mobile app can freeze on older Android versions or when storage is nearly full. Force-close the app, free up at least 500 MB of space, and reopen it. If crashes continue, uninstall and reinstall the latest version from the official store. Avoid using the app over a weak mobile signal — it tends to time out during payment confirmation steps.

Slow Response and High Latency

Heavy traffic periods — typically end of month when utility bills are due — cause noticeable slowdowns. If pages load slowly or forms take forever to submit, switch to a wired connection if possible, or try again during off-peak hours like early morning. Running a quick speed test helps confirm whether the problem is your connection or the remote server.

Payment Receipt Not Arriving

If you completed a payment but never received the confirmation email, check your spam folder first. The sending domain is managed by government infrastructure and often gets filtered. Log into your pagoPA account to download the receipt directly — it's stored there regardless of email delivery. If the payment shows as pending rather than completed, wait up to 24 hours before contacting support.
