Video Keeps Buffering or Won't Load

Buffering usually comes down to bandwidth. Viaplay recommends at least 5 Mbps for HD and 25 Mbps for 4K. Run a speed test and check whether other devices on the same network are eating up bandwidth. If speeds look fine, try switching video quality manually in the playback settings — auto mode sometimes locks onto a higher bitrate than your connection can handle steadily. Restarting your router and clearing the app cache also helps in most cases.

App Freezes or Becomes Unresponsive

A frozen interface usually means the app needs a refresh. Force-close it completely, don't just minimize it. On smart TVs and streaming sticks, a full device restart often clears memory issues that cause the UI to lock up. If freezing happens regularly, check whether a newer app version is available — outdated builds frequently have stability bugs that patches fix.

Login Fails Despite Correct Credentials
  • Clear cookies and cached data in your browser or app before trying again
  • Use the password reset link even if you're confident the password is right — account sessions sometimes get corrupted
  • Check whether Caps Lock is on or whether a password manager is inserting extra characters
  • Try logging in from a different browser or device to rule out a local issue
Payment Not Going Through at Checkout

Declined payments are often a bank-side block rather than a problem with Viaplay itself. Contact your bank to confirm they're not flagging the transaction as suspicious. Also double-check that the billing address entered matches exactly what your bank has on file. If your card still fails, try a different payment method — PayPal or an alternative card — to confirm where the issue sits.

Content Unavailable or Missing from Library

Some titles are region-locked within Viaplay's own catalog depending on which country plan you subscribed to. If a show appears in search but won't play, it may not be included in your current subscription tier. Verify your plan details in account settings and compare them against what the content page lists as required.

Search Returns No Results or Wrong Titles
  • Try shorter search terms — full episode titles with special characters often fail
  • Switch to browsing by category if search is returning blanks
  • Log out and back in, as a broken session token can silently break search indexing on the client side
Activation Code Not Working on TV

Activation codes expire quickly — usually within 15 minutes. If the code times out, refresh the activation screen on your TV to generate a new one and complete the process immediately. Make sure you're entering the code on the correct Viaplay activation page and not a third-party site.
