Service info and troubleshooting

Router doesn't connect to the network

First, check the fiber optic cable connection at the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) — the small box where the fiber enters your home. The LAN light should be solid green. If it's off or blinking red, unplug the ONT power adapter for 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait 5 minutes for the connection to stabilize. If your router still shows no internet, log into the router interface (usually 192.168.1.1) and verify the WAN connection type matches what Deutsche Glasfaser provided in your setup documents.

Personal account login fails repeatedly
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies completely before attempting login
  • Try a different browser — sometimes Firefox works better than Chrome for the customer portal
  • Make sure you're using your customer number (Kundennummer), not your email, as the username
  • Check if Caps Lock is accidentally enabled when entering your password
  • Request a password reset through the forgot password link if you've tried multiple times
Extremely high ping during gaming hours

Your connection might be affected by network congestion or QoS settings. Access your router's admin panel and look for Quality of Service options. Prioritize gaming traffic or specific devices. If you're using the provided FritzBox, enable gaming mode under Internet > Filters. Connect your gaming device via Ethernet cable instead of WiFi — this alone can reduce ping by 10-20ms. Check if background applications are consuming bandwidth during gameplay.

Uploaded files never reach recipients

This usually points to MTU size issues with fiber connections. Open Command Prompt and type: ping -f -l 1472 google.com. If packets are lost, lower the number gradually until ping succeeds. Set your router's MTU to this working value plus 28. For FritzBox users, go to Internet > Account Information > Change connection settings. The optimal MTU for Deutsche Glasfaser typically ranges between 1492 and 1500.

Video calls freeze but audio continues

Your upload speed might be throttled or experiencing packet loss. Run a speed test specifically checking upload performance. If it's significantly lower than your plan (like 50 Mbps instead of 200 Mbps), restart the ONT and router. Disable IPv6 temporarily in your router settings — some video conferencing tools handle IPv4 more reliably. Close all browser tabs and applications using the camera before joining calls.
