Files won't open or load endlessly

You click on a file, and it either spins forever or throws an error. This usually happens when your browser cache is overloaded. Clear your browser's cache and cookies, then restart the browser. If you're using the desktop app, try logging out and back in. Another common cause is corrupted local data—on desktop, find the Figma folder in your system's application data directory and delete it, then reinstall.

Plugin errors and crashes

Plugins fail to run or freeze the entire interface. First, disable all plugins and re-enable them one by one to identify the culprit. Some plugins conflict with each other or haven't been updated for the latest version. Check if the plugin has pending updates in the Community tab. If a specific plugin consistently causes problems, uninstall it and report the issue to its developer.

Sync issues between devices

Changes you make on one device don't appear on another, or you see different file versions. This happens when the connection drops mid-save. Check your internet stability—run a speed test and look for packet loss. Force a manual save by pressing Ctrl+S (Cmd+S on Mac) and wait for the 'Saved to version history' confirmation. If you're on a corporate network, firewalls might block WebSocket connections that handle real-time sync.

Interface lags during complex operations
  • Close unused tabs and files—each open file consumes memory
  • Reduce the number of active layers in your working file
  • Flatten unnecessary groups and remove hidden objects
  • Turn off live previews for effects and shadows while editing
  • Restart the app every few hours during intensive work sessions
Can't invite team members or share files

Sharing links generate errors or invitations don't send. Verify your account permissions—free accounts have collaboration limits. Check if the recipient's email is typed correctly and isn't already associated with a different team. Sometimes email providers flag invitations as spam, so ask recipients to check their junk folders. For persistent issues, copy the share link manually and send it through another channel.

Fonts missing or not loading

Text displays in a fallback font instead of the one you selected. Install missing fonts locally on your system—the app pulls fonts from your OS. On desktop, go to Help > Manage Missing Fonts to see which ones need installation. Browser versions have limited font access, so switch to the desktop app for full typography control. After installing new fonts, restart the application to refresh the font list.
