If the SPID portal doesn't open at all, start with the basics: clear your browser cache, disable any extensions that might block scripts, and try a different browser entirely. Chrome and Firefox tend to handle the authentication flow better than older or less common alternatives. If the page still hangs, check your DNS settings — switching to 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 often resolves silent loading failures.
This is one of the most common friction points. The one-time code either arrives late or not at all.
Some identity provider apps — Poste ID, TIM ID, Namirial — occasionally freeze on the confirmation screen. Force-close the app completely, reopen it, and try authorizing again. If the freeze repeats, check for a pending app update, since providers push fixes for authentication bugs fairly regularly.
SPID sessions time out quickly. If you're filling out a long form on a government portal and get kicked back to the login screen, it's usually a session expiry, not an error. Avoid leaving tabs idle for more than a few minutes, and don't open the same session in two browser tabs simultaneously — that tends to invalidate the token early.
Heavy traffic on government service portals — especially around tax deadlines or bonus application windows — causes noticeably slow response times. Try accessing the service during off-peak hours, typically early morning or late evening. Running a quick ping test to the portal domain can tell you whether the latency is on your end or theirs.
