Service info and troubleshooting

App won't load or crashes on launch

If the Bluesky app freezes on the splash screen or closes immediately, start with the basics: force-quit the app, clear its cache in your device settings, then relaunch. If that doesn't help, uninstall and reinstall the latest version from the App Store or Google Play. Outdated builds often conflict with server-side updates.

Can't log into your account

A failed login is usually one of three things: wrong password, session token expired, or a temporary auth server hiccup. Reset your password through the official site, wait a couple of minutes, and try again. If you use a third-party client like Skychat or Graysky, revoke its app password in your account settings and generate a new one.

Posts and replies not sending
  • Check your internet connection — switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to isolate the issue
  • If the post gets stuck with a spinning indicator, close the draft, reopen the app, and try again
  • Long posts with multiple images are more likely to time out; try sending text first, then attach media
  • If the problem persists across sessions, the AT Protocol relay may be experiencing delays — wait 10–15 minutes
Images and video won't load

Media on Bluesky is served through CDN nodes. If avatars and attached images show broken icons, flush your DNS cache and reload. On mobile, disable any aggressive battery-saving mode that throttles background data. Videos that buffer endlessly are often a codec issue — try opening the post in a browser instead of the app.

Search returning no results

The platform's full-text search indexes posts with a short delay. If you're looking for something just posted, give it a few minutes. For account search, make sure you're entering the full handle including the domain suffix, like username.bsky.social. Partial handles sometimes return empty results depending on server load.

Feed not updating or stuck

Pull-to-refresh not working usually means the WebSocket connection dropped. Toggle airplane mode on and off to force a reconnect, or simply restart the app. Custom feeds powered by third-party feed generators can go stale if the generator's server is down — check whether the default 'Following' feed updates normally to rule out a Bluesky-side issue.
