Page Won't Load or Loads Slowly

Slow loading on Marktplaats is usually a browser or cache problem, not a server outage. Clear your browser cache and cookies, then reload. If that doesn't help, try a different browser or switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data. Overloaded DNS settings can also cause this — switching to 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS) often fixes persistent loading failures.

Login Fails or Account Is Inaccessible

If you can't log in, start with the obvious: check that Caps Lock is off and the email address matches exactly. Use the 'Forgot password' link to reset credentials. If the login page itself doesn't respond, the session cookie may be corrupted — clear site data for marktplaats.nl in your browser settings and try again. Two-factor authentication issues are usually resolved by refreshing the authenticator app time sync.

Search Returns Wrong or No Results
  • Check that filters haven't been set too narrowly — price range or location radius can silently exclude most listings
  • Try searching in an incognito window to rule out cached filter settings
  • If results appear scrambled or duplicated, a hard page reload (Ctrl+Shift+R) usually clears the display glitch
  • Switching to the mobile app often works when the desktop search index lags
Messages Not Sending or Arriving

The built-in messaging system sometimes drops messages without showing an error. If a sent message shows no 'delivered' status after a few minutes, copy the text and send it again. Receiving nothing from a seller usually points to their notifications being misconfigured, but you can also check your spam folder if you rely on email alerts. On the app, force-closing and reopening restores the message feed in most cases.

Payment Goes Through But Order Fails

When a payment is charged but the transaction isn't confirmed on the platform, wait ten minutes before doing anything — bank processing delays are common. If the status stays stuck, check your bank app for a completed debit. Contact Marktplaats support with the transaction reference before attempting a second payment to avoid a double charge.

App Freezes or Crashes on Launch
  • Force-stop the app and relaunch it
  • If it crashes immediately, check for a pending app update in the App Store or Google Play
  • Freeing up device storage (below 1 GB free space causes instability on most phones) helps prevent repeated freezes
  • A clean reinstall fixes corrupted local data that updates can't patch
Images and Photos Fail to Load

Listing photos that show a broken icon are almost always a bandwidth or cache issue. On mobile, switching from a weak Wi-Fi signal to 4G/5G resolves this instantly. On desktop, disabling browser extensions — especially ad blockers — removes the most common cause of blocked image requests on the site.
