Bolt App Won't Open or Crashes

If the app freezes on launch or closes immediately, the most common cause is an outdated version. Check your app store for pending updates — Bolt releases patches frequently, and older builds often break after backend changes. If you're already on the latest version, clear the app cache through your phone's storage settings, then restart the device. On iOS, a full reinstall usually fixes persistent crash loops.

Map Fails to Load or Freezes

A frozen or blank map almost always points to a weak data connection rather than a server problem. Switch from mobile data to Wi-Fi or vice versa to confirm. If the map loads but lags badly, your GPS signal may be interfering — toggling location permissions off and back on forces the app to re-acquire your position. High ping on mobile networks makes the map tile rendering noticeably slow, so moving to a stable connection resolves it in most cases.

Payment Not Going Through

This is one of the most reported issues. Reasons vary:

  • The card has expired or the billing address doesn't match what your bank has on file
  • Your bank is blocking the transaction due to an unfamiliar merchant category
  • The payment session timed out while you were confirming the ride

Try adding the card again from scratch rather than editing the existing entry. If your bank app shows the charge as pending but the ride still fails, contact your bank directly — some institutions require you to whitelist specific payment processors.

Login Errors and Account Access Issues

If you can't log in, first check whether the SMS verification code is arriving. Delays of over two minutes usually mean your carrier is throttling short code messages. Try requesting the code again or switch to a different network temporarily. If the app shows an account error after a successful code entry, the session token may be corrupted — log out completely, clear app data, and sign in fresh.

Ride Request Gets No Response

When you submit a ride request and nothing happens — no drivers appear, the search spins indefinitely — the issue is usually either a geolocation error or a temporary availability gap in your area. Make sure location access is set to always on, not only while using. If the pin dropped in the wrong spot, drag it manually to your actual position. Server-side slowdowns during peak hours can also cause search to hang; waiting 30 seconds and retrying typically resolves it.
